This facebook memory popped up on my personal feed and it reminds me of the journey and how far we've come. And that sometimes you have to take risks and see where it takes you. 10-23-2011, our last POP UP (pre storefront) we did at Space 15 Twenty and Urban Outfitters Hollywood. I had 2 pop ups actually- one was my then sister business La Femme Vintage (womens vintage) and the other was with the Matt, all vintage furniture and home goods (matt and I had a space at Magnolia and Willow in Long Beach for fun).

I will never ever forget this tiring day. Pop ups are so much physical labor and especially with furniture and home goods. And it was this day I looked at my husband and sisters and told them I was so done. I was physically exhausted from doing 10 years of pop ups plus running an Etsy online shop. Lugging all the shit, packing and unpacking...every freaking month. It was time and I was ready for a storefront. And this day the idea of combining my love for vintage clothing + home and M.A.K.E. (MATT AND KAT ENGEL) subconsciously formed in my head and heart. 2 months later my friend of many years Patrick Santa Ana of ELEV8 on Linden Ave told me about the East Village and it was perfect for me and the rest is history. Ok ok yes, the secrets out - make is matt and me's initials. Cheesy I know.
