MAKE Collectives brings together a carefully curated collective of mens and womens clothing and accessories, vinyl records, home and local goods to create a compelling shopping experience that makes you feel inspired and connected. A place to gather for creative workshops and events to share the love of the handmade, old records, soul soothing interiors and vintage appreciation.
In December 2010, Newlyweds Matt & Kat Engel moved into their 1940s Long Beach home feeling like a blank canvas, which sent them on a mission to create a space filled with personality, color, texture, and everything they love. A place where they can entertain and share with everyone they love.
What started out as a hobby to decorate their first home together, became a passion to restore, refinish cool, unique vintage furniture. They began to offer their found furniture in a Long Beach antique mall so they expanded their treasures to MAKE COLLECTIVES – a collection influenced by Mid century modern pieces- unique, interesting, classic, and artistic.
Together with Kat’s sister Desiree Penaloza, Matt and Kat opened their first brick and mortar store in the historic Downtown Long Beach East Village Arts District in February 2012. MAKE joined forces with Kat and Desiree’s family business, La Femme Vintage where they specialized in vintage womenswear and accessories and sold their vintage wares on Etsy and pop up shops across Los Angeles and the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market since 2002. Together with Desiree’s eye for detail, Matt and Kat’s love for interesting furniture and found objects with clever details and Matt’s passion for collecting old vinyl, a “lifestyle shop” was born.
