Meet The Maker: ROOTZ Sauce

July 31, 2015 0 Comments

We are so in love with ROOTZ Sauce. Organic, delicious and made with a ton of love, these concoctions have totally unique and individual flavors. We sat down with Kaitlin Chamblin, personal chef and mastermind behind this inspiring brand, to learn a bit more about the heart and soul of ROOTZ Sauce!

Tell us about ROOTZ Sauce!

Blended with the perfect balance of spice, sweetness and savory flavor, ROOTZ table sauces compliment any meal and give your palate that perfect zing (think slow cooking from Kentucky meets LA innovation). Made from locally sourced ingredients and preserved naturally with apple cider vinegar, ROOTZ remains committed to genuine, healthy ingredients and amazing taste.

Did it start off as a hobby, or was small business in mind from the birth of the company?

I work as a Private Chef and could never truly find a sauce that I enjoyed- they were either too spicy, too vinegar based, or too watered down.  So I began to make my our sauce- a version of our ROOTZ Sweet + Spicy- my clients and friends loved it, and over time they kept telling me we needed to bottle it, and so ROOTZ was born!

What's your favorite thing about owning a small business?

My favorite thing about owning a small business is having complete control over my product.  Being able to not only develop and test amazing sauces, but designing and printing labels, bottles, packaging- everything about the business is exciting to me. Being able to start something from the bottom up is incredibly hard work, but in the end you have a product that your love stamped all over it.

What are some of the pros and cons about the workspace you're in currently?

We use a co-packer to bottle our sauces, they are located in Santa Paula, CA.  We have a great relationship with them and its easy to drive up for the day for testing batches, and of course on production days. Right now we have a home office for all of the rest of the business, which can sometimes be overwhelming- we are quickly out growing our little home office.  Ideally, we will be able to find a office location somewhere close to home where we can handle all the day to day business.

Whats next for ROOTZ Sauce?

We are in the middle of a very exciting Kickstarter campaign- the mission is to raise funds to help us launch our second sauce- Pineapple BBQ!  The sauce tastes delicious, of course, and is clean and healthy (no artificial preservative, colorants, dyes, or flavors!)  which is rare for BBQ sauce.  We look forward to adding a second product to our line, diversify, and grow our customer base.  And, of course, they'll be more fabulous, clean sauces to join ROOTZ in the future!  http://kck.st/1GCSgWe (<--- Kickstarter link here!!)

Be sure to check out the ROOTZ Sauce Kickstarter page! To sample some of their delicious sauce in person head down to Summer Market on 1st this Saturday, hosted by ROOTZ Sauce!
